About Southbay Recycling

The Shoreway Environmental Center (SEC) is a state-of-the-art recycling and transfer station facility. We offer residents and businesses a conveniently located option for disposing of unwanted stuff—a place where recycling the most material possible is our highest priority.

The facility is owned by the South Bay Waste Management Authority (RethinkWaste.org), a joint powers authority with twelve member agencies (the cities of Belmont, Burlingame, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, and San Mateo, the towns of Atherton and Hillsborough, the County of San Mateo and the West Bay Sanitary District).

SEC is open to the public and provides ability for residents, businesses, contractors, and individuals to bring trash and recyclable materials for processing and transfer to permitted landfills, other processing centers for further separation, and marketing materials to end users of the various recyclable materials.
